The Power of Sujood

Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration…” (48:29)

There are 4 different types of Sujood/Sujud:

  1. Sujud in Salah,
  2. Sujud-ul-Tilawah, Prostration of Recitation (Ayat-ul-Sujud)
  3. Sujud-ul-Shukr, Prostration of Thankfulness
  4. Sujud-ul-Sahw, Prostration of Forgetfulness

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication (in this state). (Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 0979)

Supplications for Sujud in Salah:
These are to be said after the minimum requirement (3 times) of Subhana Rabbi Al-Azeem (Ruku/Bowing) or Subhana Rabbi Al-Alaa (Sujud/Prostrating)

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) used to say while prostrating himself: O Lord, forgive me all my sins, small and great, first and last, open and secret.

'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him') often said while bowing and prostrating himself: "Glory be to Thee, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to Thee, O Allah, forgive me," thus complying with the (command in) the Qur'an. " "Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbana wa Bihamdik Allahumma ighfir li" (Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 0981) & Bukhari Book 1, Number 760 & 781

'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (way peace he upon him) used to pronounce while bowing and prostrating himself: "All Glorious, All Holy, Lord of the Angels and the Spirit."
"Subbuhun Quddusun Rabbul-malaikati wal-Ruh" (Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 0987)

Ibn Taymiyyah said that the souls of people are brought closer to Allah during prostration. The Prophet (SAW) taught us:
“Prostrate much because there is no Muslim that prostrates to God except that God raises him one degree in Paradise by it and forgives for him a sin.” (Ahmad)
